"The Dr Tai-chin Lo Professorship, which is dedicated to Associate or Assistant Professors, carries a special meaning for me. As one of the founding faculty of HKUST’s former Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (now Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering), I understand how important it is to support young faculty members’ teaching and research as well as their early-career development. We hope to enlighten preeminent faculty members and give the University a competitive edge to innovate in teaching and research."

About Dr. Tai-chin Lo

Dr. Tai-chin Lo obtained her PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1982. She is one of the founding faculty members of HKUST’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (now Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering) and the founding director of the Microelectronics Fabrication Center (now Nanosystem Fabrication Facility or NFF).   

In 2002, Dr. Lo and her husband Dr. Tony Tai took over W Haking Enterprises and under the couple’s leadership, the company has established fresh business by producing a comprehensive and updated range of precision products.   

Dr. Tai-chin Lo has strong dedication and commitment to charity and community service. She is President of the International Association of Chinese Traders, Chairman of Yan Oi Tong Lo Tai Chin Caring Foundation (Mental Health) Limited, among others.  

In recognition of Dr. Lo’s strong support of HKUST, the HKUST Council has decided to rename the NFF as Dr. Tai-chin Lo Nanosystem Fabrication Facility.
