Let's join hands with the University to promote academic and research excellence by setting up a Named Professorship.
About the Named Professorship Program
The HKUST Named Professorship program, funded by donations from individuals and businesses, awards a prestigious honor to eminent scholars within the University. This recognition not only celebrates the remarkable contributions of the awardees but also helps attract top talent from the region and around the globe, further reinforcing the University's tradition of academic and research excellence.
Gift Arrangement
The donation will be used to set up a permanent endowment fund, which will be managed by the University according to established policy. The endowment fund will not be used directly; instead, the income generated from it will be earmarked for the Named Professorship. The annual investment return will support the Named Professor in his or her academic and research activities, which may include part of the remuneration package, start-up funds and research funds.
Appointment of Professorship
The donor can designate the Named Professorship to the HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study or one of the five Schools: Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science, Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies. Specific preferences on academic discipline may also be taken into consideration. The nomination and appointment of the Named Professor will follow strictly the established procedures of the University.
Recognition
The Named Professorship may be named in honor of the donor, a person or an entity of the donor's choice. This naming for the Named Professorship is perpetual in principle. The appointed professor will use the full title of the Named Professorship on all occasions, including academic publications, news releases, and international interactions when appropriate. A special ceremony will be held to honor all donors and holders of the Named Professorship. Donors will receive regular updates on the Named Professorship, including information on fund usage and details regarding the Named Professor's scholarly activities and research progress.
