Mrs Padma Harilela is the wife of the late Dr the Honorable Hari N Harilela GBM, GBS, OBE, JP and mother of Dr Aron H Harilela, who is Chairman of Harilela Hotels Limited.
Mrs Harilela has been at the forefront of charitable organizations in Hong Kong. She is a strong believer that ‘one must give back to the society in which one lives’. The Community Chest of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Society for the Blind and the Hong Chi Association, (formerly the Hong Kong Association for the Mentally Handicapped) have all benefited from her open-handed generosity.
She has an active interest in the charitable activities of the American Women’s Association and is a Life Member of this prestigious body in Hong Kong. Characteristically modest by nature, Padma keeps a low profile despite a strong but unpublished participation in social causes.
She has received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (LHD) degree from St John’s University in New York and an Honorary Doctorate from Bond University, Australia.
